FAA Announces ISO 9001 Certification October 2006-
The Federal Aviation Administration, Office of Aviation Safety recently celebrated it’s new ISO 9001:2000 Quality System Registration in Washington, DC. Amera-Veritas, Inc., of Coral Springs, Florida was the consulting firm that help lead the implementation effort. Nick Sabatini was quoted as saying; “Standardization
is a benefit that helps us improve the way we manage designees.
The FAA oversees a variety of designees, such as flight examiners, medical examiners, and engineers, who perform duties on behalf of the agency. In another business area, standardization is expected to make the FAA a place for “ one-stop shopping ” by industry. Previously, our industry customers complained that they
would get different results to a certification request, for example, by going to different FAA offices. In fact, some industry representatives learned how to “shop around” the FAA to get the approval they sought. This was clearly a safety issue for us. With process standards now in place, responses to industry are clear and consistent. The
increased visibility of these processes will help us make the changes needed to keep pace with new technologies.”
